Mexico City’s Secretariat of Government (SECGOB) has moved cannabis consumption points from Plaza de la Información (Hidalgo Metro) and near the Memoria y Tolerancia Museum to three new locations.
The new sites are Plaza de la Concepción (Centro), Simón Bolívar Monument (Guerrero), and José Saramago Reading Plaza (Reforma). These were chosen for their lower pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
The relocation stems from dialogues with cannabis collectives, prioritizing agreements. It ensures responsible consumption rights without impacting others.
Each site will have SECGOB staff and an informational booth from the Institute for Addiction Prevention (IAPA). Guidance on consumption risks will be provided.
The areas will feature C5 surveillance cameras for safety. Cleaning and maintenance were also conducted in the cleared zones by the Secretariat of Works and Services.
SECGOB emphasized that Mexico City upholds the right to personal freedom while ensuring public order and safety.
