Some people in Mexico deeply love the racist, misogynistic, authoritarian Donald Trump because fascism exploits irrational emotions, such as fear and obedience, in the pursuit of power.
The traditional family, defended by Eduardo Verástegui and #MAGA, is a “factory” of authoritarian psychological structures, where obedience to the father prepares for the acceptance of an authoritarian leader who “establishes order.”
The aspirational Mexican middle class, which identifies with Eduardo Verastegui, Claudio X. González, Chumel Torres, Gilberto Lozano, and, above all, Ricardo Salinas Pliego, one of a kind, defends traditional values, is distressed by its economy, and feels threatened by the left.
They share varying degrees of sexual repression in order to fit into a social circle, the church, and the government. They channel their anxiety and frustration into repressive norms that conservative movements use to mobilize the masses.
Many Mexicans are enthralled by Trump and celebrate his intervention in Mexico. They fear freedom, experience the need to be subservient, and that’s why they love Daddy Trump.
Democracy requires a profound psychological transformation. Mexican Trump supporters could start by acknowledging that they are afraid.
